Southwest Harbor is an active fishing village on the "quiet side" of Mt.
Desert Island. A year-round community still committed to the traditional
seafaring ethic, Southwest Harbor offers a different perspective on island
life as compared to the better known areas of the island. Because the town is surrounded by Acadia National Park, and fronted by the Atlantic Ocean, naturalist walks and cruises, hiking, biking, glacier lake swimming, saltwater beaches, fishing and boating excursions are all readily accessible. There are also cruises to the outer islands and the Swan's Island ferry is nearby. ![]() The Harbor View Motel offers 28 clean, comfortable accommodations. There are 18 motel units, 14 of which have decks directly overlooking the busy harbor. Our newer units have one queen size bed with an additional sleeper sofa, telephone and a small refrigerator. Cable TV is provided for all accommodations. A continental breakfast is included for motel units July through Labor Day. Three efficiencies feature fully-equipped kitchens, private decks overlooking the harbor, and sleep from one to five persons. The third floor efficiency offers a panoramic view of the harbor and mountains both from within and the spacious deck just seventy feet from the shore's edge. It sleeps up to five and adjoins another unit which sleeps four. All three have adjoining rooms which may be used for a suite-like accommodation. Seven cottages are also available, all with water views. Each is fully-equipped and sleep up to six people. All linens, dishes, etc. are supplied in the efficiencies and cottages. Cottages fill quickly with many return guests, reserving for the next year before they leave. May, June, September and October - Special rates for off-season travelers. Children are always welcome.
